Reading the swing
Unit-rate contracts pay for the work actually done, so if the buyer's estimate is high you earn less than the bid total. If your fixed costs (a crew you've hired, equipment you've bought) only pay off at the full quantity, the low number is the one to plan on. Ask the buyer how they made the estimate during the question period if it looks off.
