How waste work is bought
Waste work covers garbage and recycling collection, junk removal, and septic and drain cleaning for public sites. Municipalities, school districts, parks, housing providers and federal sites all buy it, from a single bin pickup to whole collection programs.
How is waste work bought?
Collection contracts are recurring service contracts, priced per lift, per bin or per month, often for several years. Large municipal curbside programs are major contracts with trucks, routes and customer service, usually won by bigger haulers. Smaller contracts, such as bins at parks, schools and facilities, are within reach of local operators. Junk removal is mostly one-off or on call: clearing a building before renovation, removing abandoned items, cleaning up after an event. Septic and drain work combines scheduled pumping, camera inspections and emergency call-outs.
What do buyers check?
Equipment and capacity first: trucks, bins and backups if a truck breaks down. Then disposal: where the material goes, the receipts and weigh tickets you'll provide, and how you'll report diversion if recycling targets apply. Septic and drain work may need specific provincial or local authorizations. Expect insurance with vehicle coverage and a safety program.
When is it tendered?
Collection contracts come up when their term ends. Parks and event waste is tendered ahead of summer. Junk removal follows building projects and seasonal clean-ups. Septic pumping is often scheduled for spring and fall at rural sites.
